Elizabeth M. "Betty" Ambrose Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) M. Ambrose, 83, of West Shore Rd in Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully at West Shore Health Center in Warwick on Sunday, April 14, 2019. Her son and daughter-in-law were by her side. Betty was born in Providence, RI and grew up in Queens, NY. She lived in Warwick, RI from 1964 until her death and was a parishioner of St. Kevin’s Church in Warwick. She was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Harriet Ambrose and was married briefly to James Burke of Queens, NY. She was educated at Pace University and received a bachelor’s degree and Providence College from which she received a Master of Education degree. Betty was a teacher in The Warwick, RI school district for over 30 years. She taught fourth grade at John Greene Elementary School and first grade at Lippitt Elementary School before retiring in 1995. Betty remained active in The Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Chapter and acted as President for several years. She was also an active member of The RI Teachers Association. Betty loved to travel and enjoyed excursions and cruises to many places including Alaska, Panama Canal, Russia, and many trips to Ireland to spend time with family in Cork. She was a member of The Kindred Spirits Travel Club and traveled with them annually for several years. Betty leaves her son John Ambrose and his wife Deborah of Exeter NH, her granddaughter, Emily of Burlington, NC, and her grandson Matthew who is a Senior at Seton Hall University in So. Orange, NJ. , her sister May McConnell of Waterford, CT, her dear cousin, Michael Dorgan of Woodside, NY, many cousins both in Queens, NY and Cork, Ireland, and many beloved friends in Warwick, RI.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 9 AM from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Monday, 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's name to Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Road, Suites A203-A206, North Kingstown, RI 02852, or, St. Kevin Church and School, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI 02889, will be appreciated.
