J. George O’Keefe, 87, a 50 year resident of Greenville, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn T. (Borys) O’Keefe. Born in Averill Park, NY, he was a son of the late J. Lucien and Marie (deGonzaque) O’Keefe. Dr. O’Keefe was a professor of physics at RI College for 31 years before retiring in 1994. Dr. O’Keefe received his Bachelor’s degree from Siena College, his Master’s degree from RPI and his PhD from Brown University. He was a member of the Smithfield Sportsmen’s Club, the Saltwater Anglers, Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited. He was a former member of Glocester C.C. and a 60 year member of the University Club.
In addition to his wife, he was the father of Sean S. O’Keefe (Narcisa Cruz) of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Joseph P. O’Keefe (Abigail) of Franklin, MA. He was the brother of Bernadette Mardon (Arthur) and Jeanne Carpentier (Richard) all of Averill Park, NY, Joseph E. O’Keefe (Dianne) of Chesapeake, VA and the late Joseph J. O’Keefe. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Madison and Zoey O’Keefe.
His funeral will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 8:30am from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt.44) Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip’s Church, 622 Putnam Ave., Greenville. Burial will be private. Visitation Wednesday 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 would be appreciated.
