Laura Hughes (Zieminski), 92, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. She was the wife of the late James J. Hughes, Jr.
Born in Hartford, CT, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Glowacki) Zieminski.
Mrs. Hughes received her teaching degree from the Hartford Teaching College and her Master’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island. She was a teacher at the former Hoskins Park Elementary and also at Forest Park Elementary before retiring.
She was a member of the Rhode Island Retired Teachers Association. During her retirement, Laura enjoyed traveling around the world. She was a former communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church; currently a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
She leaves five children, Mary Hughes Brunson and her husband George of Charleston, SC, James J. Hughes, III of Cranston, Helen F. Kataisto and her husband Paul of Saunderstown, Paul E. Hughes of East Greenwich and Laurie H. Shields and her husband William of Charlestown; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Stephen Z. Hughes; and sister of the late Frances Sullivan, Edward Zieminski, Wanda Malmstrom and Helen Beaupre.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 from 11am-1pm, followed by a funeral service at 1pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Seabee Museum & Historical Park, 21 Iafrate Way, North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
