Lois E. (Mowry) Dandeneau, 82, of North Smithfield, passed away surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Ovila Dandeneau for 52 years. She leaves behind 3 children, daughters Cheryl Schatz and Doreen Knapp of Mapleville and a son Kenneth Dandeneau of Sebring, Fl. She leaves 5 grandchildren: Joshua Schatz of West Greenwich, Melanie Gaucher of Mapleville, Kelly St Jean of Williamsburg VA, Matthew Knapp of Milford MA and Adam Schatz of Mapleville and 11 cherished great-grandchildren.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Delmar and Rita (Cooney) Mowry. She was the sister of Delmar (Bud) Mowry, Jr. of North Smithfield, Patricia Dipanni of Scituate, John Mowry of East Greenwich, Retired General Leon LaPorte of San Antonio Texas and the late Shirley Boss of Taunton, MA.
During her lifetime Lois operated her own hair salon in Warwick for many years and later was employed by AT Cross for 10 years. One of her proudest accomplishments was initiating and managing the first AT Cross company store.
Always a leader and organizer, she established and was the Queen Mother of the Vivacious Red Hatters Chapter of Northern RI for many years, organizing many trips and events for over 100 members. She also was active in her apartment association at the Meadows in North Smithfield, where she orchestrated improvements, social activities and trips for the seniors.
A friend to all, Lois carried the nickname of “Hugs Lois” for her ability to reach out and touch people’s hearts and lives.
Calling hours will be held at Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike, Smithfield, Monday July 23, 2018 from 4-7pm. Her memorial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 in Lois’s memory would be most appreciated.
