Modestita “Ita” G. Principe (Garcia), 75, of Naguabo, Puerto Rico, passed away on Thursday, September 24 at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island surrounded by her family.
Born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico she was a daughter to the late Modesto and Inez Garcia on February 12, 1945. She spent her career and life in the service to others. Ita retired from Sears Teleserve in Mobile, Alabama to continue her passion of serving others by joining Rhode Island Housing to support lead reduction education for families and contractors. She was an American Red Cross, South Alabama Chapter volunteer and trainer. She continued her service to others as a Girl Scout Leader for Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama and ultimately became a trainer, joined the Board of Directors, was a Board Officer and served as a National Delegate. She served as a legal and medical translator serving thousands of people in her lifetime. She has received numerous awards for service and leadership and remained connected to volunteerism. She celebrated her faith as a member of Ocean State Baptist Church.
Ita Principe is preceded in death by her parents Modesto and Inez (Flores) Garcia and brothers Antonio Garcia and Ismael Garcia. She is survived by her children and their spouses Daphne and Henry, Melanie and Renato (late), Yariela, Victor, and Chris; brothers Gabriel and Modesto, Jr.; grandchildren Erik Christian, Catalyna, Gabrielle, Marlena, and Brooke and great-Grandchildren, Talia and Madani and many other extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM at Ocean State Baptist Church, 600 Douglas Pike #2348, Smithfield, Rhode Island with funeral services immediately following. A private graveside service will take place at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1 Rhode Island Ave, Johnston, RI. In Lieu of flowers contribution in her memory to Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama, 3483 SpringHill Ave, Mobile, AL 36608 would be appreciated. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
