Obituary

Sampalis, Panagiotis D. "Panos", 85, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Maria (Assimakopoulou) Sampalis. Born in Filiatra, Greece, he was a son of the late Dionisios and Panagiota (Giouzi) Sampalis. Panos immigrated to the United States in 1968 and worked as a baker for Dunkin' Donuts until 1983. After his retirement, he worked with his sons at Sakis Pizza in Providence. Panos was a very proud and generous man, and loved spending time and entertaining family and friends. He traveled every year to his hometown in Greece, where he loved to tend to his farm and olive trees. He is survived by two sons, Dionisios P. Sampalis and his wife, Vasso and Konstantinos P. Sampalis and his wife, Christina. He was the brother of Yiannis Sampalis, Bessie Spinos, Demetrius Sampalis, and the late Marigo Panagiotopoulou. Panos is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2-5 pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. His funeral service and burial will be in his hometown of Filiatra, Greece. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to, Church of the Annunciation, Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920, will be appreciated.
