Robert M. Conroy, 71, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia A. (Harmaian) Conroy for 48 years. Born in Durham, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph and Henrietta (Ippel) Conroy. Mr. Conroy was a member of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the RI Army National Guard with the rank of Staff Sergeant before retiring. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College. He was one of the first people from Rhode Island to receive a heart transplant from Tufts Medical Center 19 years ago. He was a member of the Orchid Society, volunteer for the Brown University Herbarium, and an avid gardener and fisherman. Mr. Conroy was a coach for the CLCF soccer, Edgewood South Elmwood Little League, St. Paul CYO Volleyball, and an assistant scout master for Troop 22 at St. Matthew Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Melissa Conroy (Juan Carlos Beteta-Raymundo), and Alyson Conroy; one son, Matthew Conroy (Jacquelyn Bell); two grandchildren, Lillian and Penelope Conroy; one grand dog Max; one brother, Howard Conroy of California; one sister, Cynthia Conroy of Washington state; and many nieces and nephews in California. He was the brother of the late James and Stephen Conroy.
His funeral will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 8:45 AM from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place, Broad Street, Edgewood at 10 AM. Visiting hours, Friday 4-8 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the New England Donor Services, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451 will be appreciated.
