Obituary

Ronald Robert Hammersley, 70, died Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Palm Bay, Florida. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Lillian M. (Matoes) Hammersley. Growing up he traveled extensively while his father served in the US Army. Ron served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War era. After his discharge, he attended URI earning a Bachelor of Science in 1974. While at URI, he was the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #1 in Jamestown. After graduating he went to work for Hamilton Standard in Connecticut before returning to Rhode Island to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield. He left Blue Cross to work as a controller for the State Department in the Agency for International Development. This position allowed him to travel again this time all over the world allocating funds for countries receiving federal aid.

He is survived by his daughter Alexis Catherine Heflin (husband Justin Heflin), son Ronald Roderick Hammersley, and two grandchildren, Alister Raylan Heflin and Liberty Jocelyn Heflin. He was the brother of Robert R. Hammersley (wife Deborah), and was predeceased by his twin sister, Rhonda L. Corbin. He also leaves a brother in-law Arthur Corbin and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 10-11 AM with a service at 11 AM in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mark Cemetery, Jamestown.
