William R. Slater, Jr., 80, of North Kingstown and Jupiter, FL, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Edith (Hussey) Slater for fifty-eight years.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was a son of the late William R., Sr. and Eleanor (Boland) Slater.
Mr. Slater was a US Army Veteran. He worked for NYNEX Telephone Company before retiring in 1992; and went on to work at Allen Harbor in North Kingstown, retiring in 2012.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1899, a member of the Order of the Moose in Jupiter, FL and the American Legion in FL. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, William R. Slater, III and his wife Lisa of MD; a brother Thomas Slater of Cleveland, OH; and four grandchildren, Ellie, Katie, Jack and Ridge.
His funeral will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 8:45am from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or to the Shepherd Foundation, PO Box 50, Kensington, MD 20895 will be appreciated.
